I loved this media player until the day it stopped working. It's small and can play most common formats. It's pretty easy to use. However, right about a few weeks after 90 days, it suddenly stopped playing. The blue LED light kept flashing and it was very warm (some would say hot) to the touch. I thought it overheated so I unplugged it for a day. However, once I plugged in again, there was no respond, not even the LED light. It continued work, however, as an external hard drive when plugged with the USB cable to the computer. Anyhow, the company told me to send $15.50 with the Micca Slim to have it repaired. I am still waiting for it. Just a warning to potential buyer out there.

+++++++++ UPDATE ++++++++++++

I received it back with updated firmware and new AC adapter. I was told that it was the faulty AC adapter that caused the failure. I do love this media player. I would have given it 5 stars if I didn't have run to problem so soon. I understand that every gadget has a failure rate and they did fix it quickly (at a price.) I hope the fix with last. I don't know how common is this issue. However, I think potential buyers should be aware of the failure rate.

Bought it for a trip to connect to a portable LCD TV. Hooked everything up the day I got it and worked great. Played with the interface. Total time used about 30 minutes. The next day in preparations for the trip I checked it again with additional movies I'd installed. IT DIDN'T WORK! The TV registered "no signal" from the AV connection. The same AV connection that worked less than 24 hours before. I tried everything. I am a computer technician so there is some know-how involved. Anyway, a couple of hours later and no picture I connected to a TV via the HDMI. This worked. So either the connection was bad or the cable. I drove to Wal-Mart, Radio Shack, Target, etc. No one had the same mini AV to RCA cable needed. I was left scrambling the day before the trip to find an alternative locally.

Amazon was great! No hassle return of the item with paid shipping. I love you guys! Anyway, in addition to the Micca Slim, I purchased the "Micca 5V 2000mA (2A) Car Power Adapter For Micca Slim". This came directly from Micca but arrived later than promised thus after leaving for the trip. Not that I'd have used it with the bad Micca Slim but it just added insult to injury. So then I contacted Micca about an RMA. Their customer service leaves quite a bit to be desired. The response I got was to mail it back and there would be a restocking fee. After 2 emails asking the not to do this and explaining the situation, the response I got was that I would have to pay shipping and a 15% restocking fee! They informed me that I should have called their tech support first. As if I were at fault and since I didn't do things the way they would have preferred, they weren't going to do anything to help after having sent a defective item. Thanks for nothing guys! Except for money out of my pocket for shipping, restocking fee, driving to find a good cable, and of course aspirin!

These HDD enclosures are built cheaply in China, and sold at a nice profit by greedy resellers. Micca Store twice offered no help to offer to resend a new car charger (mail said it was delivered, I never signed for it).

Now the unit has stopped working after 4 months and it does not have a warranty, only 30 days. So...my opinion to buy something more expensive and more sturdy is reinforced again.

Settle for this if you want a short term solution and if you wish to have prompt...but bad customer service.

I bought this seemingly cool device for my little girl. I often download TV shoes and movies via torrents on the web and wanted something that I could play the files without having to convert them and burn them to a dvd. Upon arrival I installed a 320GB notebook drive, then plugged it into my windows 7 computer and formatted the drive and created a partition (BTW you must do this if you are installing a brand new HDD) after that, I proceeded to load about 30+ Gigs of movies to the HDD. When I plugged it in the setup screen came on and there was no real way of getting out of it. I pressed a variety of button on the remote before it brought me to the regular screen which gives you the option to choose what file type you want to play (Movies;Music;Pictures;File) I clicked on the movie icon to find a screen that said NULL and there were none of the movies I had copied to the drive listed... In fact there was no files listed what so ever. After tinkering with it for about 20 minutes I decided to try to update the firmware, I downloaeded the formware and followed the instructions, it did its thing and than I navigated to the movie directory to still find it was empty! I plugged the device back into the computer and it popped up as a removable drive and low and behold all the movies were on the drive. I am so sick of trying to figure out what is wrong with the device. It is going back ASAP. Waste of time and money, I may have gotten a defective device, but it's not worth getting another one to find out. I would recommend the MVIX brand one. I know that it works pretty well.
